Animal Welfare

In Broward, more than 30,000 domesticated animals become homeless and 12,000 native wild animals need care annually. Unwanted cats and dogs are often surrendered to public shelters or become strays, Without a safe permanent home, more shelters, adoption programs, or medical care, these roaming animals become a nuisance and ultimately become impounded and euthanized in some cases.

To ensure that Broward’s animals are treated with respect and live safely without threat abuse or neglect.

We believe that the character of our community is reflected in the way we treat our animals. Sick, injured and homeless animals deserve proper treatment, protection and care. Over 12,000 injured, orphaned or imperiled animals are admitted annually to the South Florida Wildlife Center.  More than 1,000 dogs and cats become homeless weekly in Broward County.

Projects we will support must demonstrate impact on the physical and psychosocial well-being of animals. Domesticated and wild animals should live in a healthy and safe environment, free from harm, abuse and neglect.

Animal Welfare is currently closed. Applications will be accepted beginning in the summer of 2019.

In the meantime, if you have an Animal Welfare project that you would like to share with the Foundation that aligns with our goal, please contact Angelica Rosas, Grants Manager at
